Immortality -- Arnold G. Tew

"Immortality Lies in Being Remembered by Family and Friends."

Arnold George Tew (1896 - 1958)

My paternal grandfather was born on October 15, 1896 in Central Falls, Rhode Island.  He died suddenly and unexpectedly on this day 55 years ago in Berlin, Connecticut while on a business trip.  He was the only one of the four sons of John Andrew Tew and Margaret "Maggie" (Conner) Tew to survive beyond age two.  Arnold was married to Huldah A. Hasselbaum of Providence, Rhode Island and together they had three children.  Arnold is the grandfather of ten grandchildren, the great grandfather of sixteen great grandchildren and the great great grandfather of at least three great great grandchildren.

  1. A lovely tribute to your grandfather.

Wow! His three brothers each passed away before reaching the age of two. How tragic.

  2. Hi Jana!

    Thanjk you for your comments.

Yes it was a tragedy the way he lost three brothers, but sadly this was not terribly unusual in the days before penicillin and the so-called miracle drugs. The full scope of the tragedy, however, is briefly explained in my "Immortality" post of January 27th . My grandfather lost his father to a sudden accident when he was about six years old and his father was hit and killed by a train on his way to work in Providence one day. Then my great grandmother lost her youngest son less than a year later. :-(
