Treasure Chest Thursday (June 13, 2013) -- A Teacher Commendation Card

My 2X great grandmother, Susannah Catherine Appelle/Appell, was born in Boston on January 15, 1844 and died in North Attleboro, Massachusetts on May 27, 1906.  She would have been in grade school circa 1854 and the above Teacher Commendation card was probably issued to her around that time.

Susannah was the daughter of John K. Appell and his wife, Susannah Raeder (1810 - 1877).  She married George Henry Cooke on December 19, 1865 in Boston, Massachusetts.

My descent from Susannah (Appell) Cooke. . .

          Susannah Appell (1844 - 1906) m. George Henry Cooke (1843 - 1872)

          Walter Wilson Cooke (1869 - 1944) m. Florence Leonette Flagg (1870 - 1904)

          Ruth Eaton Cooke (1897 - 1979) m. Everett Shearman Carpenter (1891 - 1962)
          (my maternal grandparents)

  1. What an amazing piece of ephemera. I see the card is old enough to have Miss spelled as Mifs. Very cool.
