Monday Memories (January 12, 2015) -- The O'Kane Siblings (circa 1930)

Daniel Joseph O'Kane, Sr. (1889 - 1950) and his wife Nora C. Hayes ((1893 - 1981) had six children -- five of whom are pictured here in a proof from about 1930. The eldest child, Daniel J. O'Kane, Jr. (1919 - 2007), is the father of my wife Molly and the maternal grandfather of our two sons. He is at the extreme left in the photograph.

The other siblings shown in the photo (from left to right after Dan, Jr.) are Thomas J. O'Kane (1922 - 2008), Edward O'Kane (1921 - 2002), Raymond G. O'Kane (1925 - 1988), and Mary C. O'Kane (1928 - 1993). The sixth and youngest sibling, Grace P. O'Kane, was not born until 1933 and so is not pictured in this family portrait.

Monday Memories (March 31, 2014) -- A Youth Soccer Championship

In 1997 our older son was thirteen years old and soccer was his sport of choice after having left baseball behind. Both he and his younger brother were enthusiastic soccer players and they attended week-long soccer camps at Northwood School in Lake Placid during the summers for fun and to improve their skills.

As the above photograph shows, our older son's team "Big Red" won the LYSA (Loudoun Youth Soccer Association) All-Star Soccer Tournament in 1997. He is pictured (fourth boy from the right in the back row) with his teammates and coaches. It was a thrilling tournament and a well-earned victory.

Monday Memories (March 24, 2014) -- 28 Years Ago Today!

It was 28 years ago today that our younger son, Christopher, was born . . . and now he is a high school English Literature teacher!  Time has certainly gone by quickly, but not without some great times and wonderful memories!

A Monday Memory (August 26, 2013) -- Rhode Island Clam Cakes!

Aunt Carrie's at Pt. Judith, Rhode Island (1930s)

I visited my parents this weekend and heard about their recent visit back to their home state of Rhode Island a couple of weeks ago.  They had a great time including a visit to Pt. Judith where many a summer has been spent.  But best of all was a meal at "Aunt Carries" a fixture of Pt. Judith since the 1920s.  Generations of our family have enjoyed trips to Pt. Judith and the regional delicacy known as "clam cakes."  Aunt Carrie's has some of the best around!
