Friday Fotos (July 12, 2013) -- Ruth Eaton Cooke in 1916

Ruth Eaton Cooke (1916)

Ruth Eaton Cooke

The top two photographs are from a recently discovered picture album that belonged to my maternal grandmother, Ruth Eaton (Cooke) Carpenter.  The small 5" x 6" album contains photographs adhered to black construction paper pages and are usually labeled in a silvery-white ink on the black pages.  Unfortunately, many of the photographs identify people only by their initials or first names.  All of the photos date from 1914 to 1917, which means they are rare photos of my grandmother before her marriage to my grandfather, Everett Sherman Carpenter, on September 18, 1926.  Ruth is about 19 years old in these photographs.

The photographs shown here were taken in 1916 during an outing with friends to Lake Whitehall in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.  The location is confirmed by the photograph immediately above that is from another album.  Lake Whitehall is now a State Park that is "almost completely water and very little park."  It was once used as a source for local drinking water, but is now mainly a recreational lake for small, non-motorized boats and fishing.
