This recently discovered snapshot was taken in September 1958 when our family was living in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The photograph is a special treasure because it captures the morning my younger sister and I were about to leave for school on what was her very first day in Kindergarten. We were both attending Streiber Memorial Elementary School in Chicopee at the time. [Our younger brother -- at the left in the snapshot -- was three years old and not yet in school.]

This photo prompts memories of little plaid dresses, pants with suspenders so they wouldn't fall down, and facing the sun for photographs. You look very spiffy, John, but you don't look very happy. Or maybe it was just the sun....
ReplyDeleteExpressions tell all: Susan's anxiety; JDs contemplation (car seating arrangements?); and Peter's "let's drop them off and have some fun!"
ReplyDeleteNo, that expression is concern for my little sister entering the mysteries of school for the very first time. I am tenderly holding your hand to reassure you and offer my sage guidance -- even though once we arrive at school I'll be off on my own with the big boys and girls in the 1st grade! ;-)
