Saturday Serendipity (March 10, 2018)

Saturday Serendipity recomends the following reads for this weekend .  .  .

1.  After a bit of a posting hiatus due to other demands on her time, Diane Boumenot of One Rhode Island Family blog is back .  .  . and if you have Rhode Island roots, then you need to check out her newest post. Diane recently came across the "Proceedings of the Rhode Island Historical Society, 1874 - 1914" and she put in the time and effort to extract the names of the subjects of "necrology" reports in the more than 35 volumes she lists and provides links to.  "Necrology" is another name for obituaries. Some of the obituaries listed by Diane are fairly lengthy and provide lots of information and clues for the genealogist -- others are much shorter but still of interest. Iam sure Diane's post is the product of hours of work and the post can be very useful to those looking for ancestors and relatives in and around Rhode Island. You can access this important resource here.

2.  This week Heather Rojo of Nutfield Genealogy blog posted a transcription of an article in the 1878 New Hampshire Patriot and State Gazette that recounts the founding of the Nutfield Colony in America in the area of what became present day Londonderry, Derry and Windham, NH.  You can read this interesting piece here.

[There were 7 recommended reads for this week's Saturday Serendipity, but inexplicably while proofing the post in Preview mode, all but the above two were suddenly deleted and proved to be unrecoverable (don't you hate when that happens?).  I cannot bring myself to spend the time to recreate the other five recommendations, so this becomes the shortest Saturday Serendipty ever.]

  1. John, I'm sorry about the lost 7 posts you wanted to share. Thinking back, I'm wondering if they had anything to do with RootsTech. Anyway, it was nice to see the two New England ladies get a mention. Over the years, I've lost more posts, either by human error or computer error, it's frustrating.
